I call it a "World Messenger". What it is, is a a website that works like an instant messenger where you log on and instead of just a screen name, you are given a number ID. this number ID will correspond to you and only you. This will allow users to randomly message someone provide they aren't already chatting to more than a set amount of people. This can open up people to meeting others easier. The twist on this will be that that when it is enable on cellphone as an application or program, you can use a function that will look for whoever has an account around you and let you talk to them to. Example: you want to strike up a conversation with someone sitting across from you on the subway. Use the app and it finds accounts around you and voila chat away.
That idea is something I would really like. Often I sit on the train and want to start up a conversation with the person next to me, but it's just not socially acceptable to turn to them and say 'how was your day?' I think it's a shame, but it's the way it is. I think if something like that was to come into existence a big part of it would have to be language translation. Since people speak so many different languages you would have to set your language and anything written to you in a different would translate into that and visa versa.
ReplyDeleteThis would be really cool. Subway is so depressing with everyone just engrossed in their iPods or games. This would be like looking in the eye and saying 'Howdy'. Now only if we got cell signal underground!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a pretty good idea. I think the subway thing would be great! People in NYC really need something like this. Everyone here always seems so withdrawn, self-interested, and introvert. If you simply step out of the boroughs to Long Island and if you ever vacation out of town, people seem so friendly! Even something a simple smile, hello and how are you doing can brighten someone's day sometimes. Also, face to face social interaction is increasingly important in this day and age where a good portion or majority of our socializing is done online so connecting people nearby would be a great idea.
